My chickie and I went to the Grove to see a movie this weekend. She had free tickets. Well, oddly enough the choice for us was also between Mystic River and Intolerable Cruelty... but I made it abundantly clear that 2+ hours with monkey-faced Clooney and high-priced LA call girl turned starlet Zeta Jones (yes, it's true -- ask around) was by definition intolerable cruelty. (Other LA insider information for the curious: John Travolta gay/bi. Kevin Spacey Gay. Former Chippendale dancer and Kevin Spacey live-in pal Brendan Fraser gay/bi. Nothing wrong with it, just saying.) As expected, Mystic River, directed by the seasoned, discerning Clint Eastwood was excellent. A lean, terse, up-close character study using quality actors. Interesting ending too that speaks to the univeral need for "deliverance" from old ghosts that can hold us in their grip and prevent us from getting on with our lives. When those old ghosts are finally killed and buried, it can set us free to realize our full potential... for good or evil, depending on the make-up of our character. A movie well worth seeing, I think.
